Somatic Practices: Healing Through Body Awareness
Somatic practices help release stored trauma and tension from your body, restoring nervous system balance and emotional freedom.
The Science Behind It
Trauma and chronic stress are stored in the body as tension and dysregulation. Somatic practices (body-based therapies) help discharge this stored energy and restore nervous system equilibrium. Research shows somatic therapy is effective for PTSD, anxiety, and chronic pain.
Beginner's Guide
Start with simple body awareness: Notice where you hold tension. Gently shake your body, allowing tremors to release. Make sounds (sighing, humming). Move intuitively to music. These practices help your body complete stress cycles that were interrupted.
Practical Exercise
Spend 5-10 minutes daily with somatic movement. Put on music and let your body move however it wants. Shake, sway, stretch. This helps discharge nervous system activation.
